The Belief

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I believe that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, and I love him.  I believe that he has a plan for me, and that while I am on this earth I have the opportunity to discover and fulfill this plan.

I believe that my Heavenly Father sent his son, Jesus Christ, to perform a sacrifice for his beloved spirit children.  I believe that he suffered physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual agony, and that he understood his great purpose as a mediator for all of mankind.  This sacrifice is known as the Atonement, and it is my greatest source of peace, comfort, strength, healing, and power.  I believe that it is only through understanding and application of the Atonement that I can return to live with my Heavenly Father.

I believe that when Jesus Christ left this earth, he left us with the Holy Ghost, a spirit who testifies of truth, comforts, and guides in the physical absence of the Savior.

I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that he did in fact receive a visit from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  I believe that he translated, through divine power, the Book of Mormon.  I believe that this book was written and recorded many years ago and saved for our day, and that within it are contained answers to many of the questions that arise in daily living.  I also believe that through the prophet Joseph Smith the keys of the priesthood were restored to the earth, enabling the powerful and essential ordinances of baptism, confirmation, and temple endowments.

I believe that Heavenly Father has commanded his latter-day saints to build temples, and that within these holy buildings we are able to make covenants with God and our families, and continue in the learning that enables us to experience eternal joy.  I also believe that in the temple we are able to perform these ordinances on behalf of individuals who no longer live on this earth, thus providing the opportunity for exaltation to all who desire to receive it.

I believe that the Priesthood, the power to act in the name of God, is a divine power given to worthy individuals at the appropriate time.  I have witnessed the incredible power of the Priesthood in my own life when exercised through worthy men acting as instruments in the Lord's hands.  I have received physical and spiritual healing, comfort, guidance, and a witness of the truth through this power.

I believe that the Lord calls living prophets to guide his Church in the Latter-days.  I believe that Thomas S. Monson is his current prophet, and that the many men and women who serve in the church have been called through divine inspiration to serve their fellow brothers and sisters and build the Lord's earthly kingdom.

I believe that it is only through an earnest desire to know, study of both ancient and modern scriptures and then an earnest application of the principles learned that I will be able to achieve lasting peace, happiness, and joy.  I understand that to become a true daughter of God, I will need to study and emulate the life of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Older Brother.  I am grateful for his example, and strive daily to be a better example of the love, service, and truth he lived perfectly during his ministry on this earth.
